Education & Workshops
Digital Revival Workshop
Our workshops introduce participants to the art of digitally reconstructing historical wind instruments. We capture the sonic essence of rare and culturally significant instruments and reinterpret their timbres through wind controllers and digital sampling, opening new possibilities in performance, preservation and research.
Scope & Objectives
• Introduce students to the field of historical sampling
• Teach practical sampling, editing and mapping techniques
• Bridge the gap between historical preservation and digital innovation
• Enable institutions to digitally preserve and research instrument collections
Workshop Structure
1. Introduction & context – overview of the project’s mission, timeline and instruments
2. On‑site sampling – record comprehensive samples of instruments in their museum setting
3. Sample editing & implementation – edit recordings, create loops and organize patches using sampling software
4. Wind controller adaptation – adapt samples for expressive performance on a wind controller
5. Final showcase concert – participants present their creative reinterpretations of the sampled instruments
Research & Institutional Value
• Spectral analysis of historical timbres for acoustic research
• Comparison of tuning systems and intonation across eras
• Investigation of material influence on instrument acoustics
• Long‑term digital preservation to ensure access for future generations
